English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Apollo-Ridge School District welcomes and supports students who may not speak English as the primary language in their homes. All parents are required to complete a Home Language Survey upon enrollment at Apollo-Ridge, which is placed in the student's permanent file. Parents who identify a language other than English as the primary language spoken in their home may be eligible for their student to participate in the ESL program. Determination of eligibility will be conducted through the use of a screening assessment conducted by a certified ESL teacher.

The goal of the ESL program is to provide a program for eligible students that facilitates their achievement of English proficiency and the academic standards. It is the goal of the District to work cooperatively with the families of English Language Learners to provide an appropriate and exciting learning experience, and help reach child to maximize their learning potential.
