In response to the threat made to one of our students via social media this past weekend, the District has and continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies. Although the threat did not specifically mention any Apollo-Ridge school building, we have regarded the communication with the utmost seriousness, since the safety of our students certainly is a priority.
To enhance the safety of our school campus moving forward, we will be implementing additional security measures, including the following:
● Additional police officers will be on campus throughout the school day.
● We request that students minimize what they bring with them to school. If backpacks, bags or purses are not necessary, please leave them at home. If you do bring a bag, please only bring what is necessary for the day. All backpacks, bags and purses brought
to school may be subject to search. Please take time to check your child’s backpack for inappropriate or unnecessary items before they come to school.
● Students should not arrive on campus prior to the start of the school day. Student’s coats, jackets and outerwear may be searched or students asked to empty their pockets upon entering the building.
● Any visitors to school buildings should have an appointment. Parents and visitors who come to the school should expect additional safety protocol prior to entry as well.
Thank you to everyone for your efforts to keep our school community safe. Your concern and cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
The District is thankful for how our school community has embraced the concept of “If you see something, say something.” We understand the concern we all have for our children and schools, and this situation is an example of how the community has helped bring a concern to the attention of law enforcement and the schools. We will continue to work with law enforcement in striving to make our campus as safe as possible.
Given the ongoing investigation, additional comment is not available at this time. Please check the District website for any additional updates should they be necessary.
