Transportation Discipline Procedure
In the past we have had some difficulty
with students’ behavior on the buses. We want to inform you of
our procedures when dealing with a serious bus situation.
If a student enters a bus and is
threatening another student and or the driver, the procedure
below will be followed:
- He/she will be brought into the
principal’s office.
- The principal will contact the
parents/guardians to come to the school to retrieve their
child.
- If the principal cannot contact the
parents, the next step will be to contact people listed on
your child’s emergency sheet.
- If there is still no response, then
the principal will call Stewart’s Bus Company. They will
send a van and transport your child home.
- Stewart’s will bill you for the cost
of the transportation.
Please note that this procedure will only
be implemented when there is a real threat of harm or danger
to other students or to the driver.
We want to be pro-active in handling bus
discipline problems. Please have a heart-to-heart talk with
your child about this procedure. We are looking forward to your
cooperation and support in this endeavor. Our main concern is
the safety of your children.
If you have any questions, contact
Mr. Gary Davis, Director of Transportation, at 724-478-4305.

Elementary Dismissal Procedure
Effective
immediately (August 23, 2006), the following procedures will be
in place for afternoon dismissal at the Apollo-Ridge Elementary
School:
Students
will be dismissed in the following order:
3:15 pm Bus Students
3:35 pm
Parent Pick Up
We have
instituted this change to maintain the integrity of the
afternoon delivery schedule and to ensure the safety of our
students. The influx of traffic caused by parent pick-ups has
delayed the departure of the buses from the school district
property.
Beginning
this school year, parents wishing to pick their child up rather
than use the district-provided transportation must adhere to the
following procedure:
· Parents
who plan to pick up their child at dismissal time are required
to send a note to the child’s teacher indicating this
preference.
· Parents
are not to arrive at the school prior to 3:30 p.m.
· Parents
are to park in the high school parking lot until the last
elementary bus has departed.
· Parents
are then to proceed to the elementary parking lot utilizing the
empty parking spaces—double parking is not permitted. If the
main lot is full, parents are to proceed to the auxiliary
parking lot behind the building. You are to access this parking
area via the bus lane.
· Parents
are to report to the elementary office and place their
child(ren)’s name on the dismissal list.
· Students
for parent pick up will be called for dismissal at 3:35 p.m.
Parent pick
up dismissal time may vary based upon departure time of the last
elementary bus.
Security will
be in place to facilitate orderly dismissal of students from the
elementary building.
