Innovative Projects Grant Recipients 2005-2006 |

Immigration - Joyce Scibek The grant will provide funding for transportation and admission to the Heritage Museum in Johnstown, PA, to expand on lessons learned during class about immigration and citizenship.
“Welcome to the Real World” - Barb Homa and Tara Pangonis Proceeds of the grant will be used toward combining the disciplines of math and social studies to educate students about events encountered in adult, independent living. Activities will include simulations of “real world” situations.
Birding Club - Todd HickmanThe grant will provide funding for a Birding Club in which the students will develop an appreciation for life-long conservation through the development of bird habitat and observation of bird activity. The focus of the project will be for students to construct various styles of birdhouses.
Transition Club - Tara Pangonis, Barb Homa and Kelly Shoop This grant will be utilized by the seniors in the learning support department to create a video yearbook of their senior year as a senior project. This project will help students gain knowledge in technology and practice necessary social skills to assist with integration into the student body.
Civil War Photography - Dan Barrett The grant will provide supplies and services for a two week middle school art lesson with a focus on photography, civil war costumes, and a perspective of America during the Civil War period that is a component of the middle school social studies curriculum.
8th Grade Orientation - Kelly Shoop Funding will provide a transition program that will be developed by the High School Learning Support class for students who will be entering the High School at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. T.L.C. (Teddies for Louisiana’s Children) - Kim Spaniel and Cindy BushMiddle School students will sew teddy bears that will be sent by the winter holidays to children in Louisiana who have suffered the wrath of hurricane Katrina. The students will also create message cards and letters of encouragement that will accompany each bear.
“Binding” Memories at A.R.M.S. - Cynthia BushEighth grade students will collect papers from all disciplines throughout the school year and place them in a one-inch three ring binder which will serve as a compact, organized collection of their finest work and memories to be savored for years to come.
Working Together to Help Others - Ann Mondale, Chad Danka, Lori Arbuckle, Kathy Flick, Donna Keeley and Janie FryerWith the grant money fifth grade classes will create and design Gingerbread Houses and no-sew fleece blankets to be used as fundraisers and donations to Children’s Hospital.
Basket Weaving - Jennifer BartonWith the grant funding, the fourth grade classes will complete a basket weaving project in collaboration with their pioneering units in social studies and reading classes.
American Girl Tea - Sandy Curci, Nikki Dunmire, Anna Griffin, Pat McDonnell and Marilyn RepaskyThe grant will address the need to generate interest in reading for pleasure, aid in comprehension and oral expression, and provide an opportunity for students to respond to literature in a book club setting. A formal High Tea will be provided during which girls will answer questions about the assigned book. There will also be a craft activity related to the story.
ABC Books/Second Grade Alphabet Books - Joyce Conti, Gloria Notte and Debra RomanoThe grant will provide materials needed for second grade students to create a hardback alphabet book. Students will utilize reading, writing and editing skills. |
